Sustainable Aquafeed in Vietnam: stimulating adoption and certification

 

Mr. Ivo Hooghe, First Secretary, Development Cooperation, Embassy of Belgium (third person from right in first rang) gave opening remark and attended in the conference. 

In aquaculture, feed costs account for 60-85% of production costs. The development of aquaculture is highly dependent on the sustainable development of the aquaculture feed industry. In order to improve understanding and progress towards the establishment of assessment criteria, certification for the sustainable development of the aquaculture feed industry requires research and discussion by stakeholders. On Dêcmber 12, 2018, Faculty of fisheries organized a workshop on Sustainable Aquafeed in Vietnam: stimulating adoption and certification. The workshop was organized in the framework of cooperation between University of Namur, Belgium and Vietnam National University of Agriculture, supported by ARES.

Deputies attended the workshop: Embassy of Belgium, Namur University, Center for fishery inspection, testing and certification-MARD, VINACERT Certification and Inspection Joint Stock Company, Institute of Fisheries Economics and Planning, Research Institute for Aquaculture N° I, Hue University, Can Tho University, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, International Collaborating Center for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS), WWF Viet Nam, Vietnam Sea culture Organisation, Vietnam Fisheries Society,  and some companies operating in the field of aquafeed such as Mavin-Austfeed, Cargill, DABACO, Green feed, Hung Vuong Trade and Consultancy Limited Company, Scientific and technology Center for sea culture in vietnam, Dong A Investment Development of Fishery Joint Stock Company (DONG A IDF CORP.,JSC),  Equipment and Technology Transfer Joint Stock Company, Vocational School of Engineering and Technology,  and some other units.

The workshop included presentations and discussions concerning sustainable aquafeed, such as: feed formulation, aquatic animal requirement, ingredients used to replace of fish meal and fish oil, feeding management, culture technic, new fisheries law and regulations, international and national certifications, traceability, food safety, aquaculture development plan and strategy, international cooperation on sustainable aquaculture...  

The workshop has created opportunities for ministry of agriculture and rural development,  regulators, experts, scientists, evaluation and certification units, aquafeed producers and traders meet and exchange more information on aquafeed sustainable in Vietnam.
